GDA to Launch 1200-Acre Mega City Plan Next Month

Owning a house in the National Capital Region might become a reality for many living and working here. After National Building Construction Corporation announced its first residential project in Delhi by this year-end to provide affordable houses, Ghaziabad Development Authority is now gearing up to launch its Madhuban-Bapu Dham mega city project, spread over 1,200 acres, next month.

Located about 10 km from Kaushambi border, the proposed scheme will offer about 10,000 plots. The plot size will be in the range of 50 sq feet to 250 sq feet. ``We have already got 800 acres and are negotiating with the farmers for 400 acres more. We are quite sure of launching it next month,'' said GDA vicechairman S K Diwedi though he was non-committal about the time-frame for the project to be completed.

He said the new city will have enough space for commercial development besides having provision for malls and other services.

``There will be group housing societies, schools, a degree college, police station, parks, markets, parking lots, hospitals, clubs and all other modern facilities a city must have,'' Diwedi said. Sources said that considering the trend of increasing vehicular population in the NCR, all the major roads in the mega city will be 100 metre wide.

This will be the first scheme to be launched by GDA after 1997. Sources said since the GDA did not acquire land in the past 11 years, no plot has been allotted.

GDA officials said property prices in this sub-city would be much less in comparison to the prevailing rates being offered by private developers. The mega city falls between NH-24 and NH-58 and hence officials claim will have very good connectivity. ``Moreover these two corridors are being widened. By the time the city takes off, we hope the drive on these stretches will be smoother. Besides, we have already started the process of improving public transport,'' claimed a senior official.

Significantly, besides offering a housing bonanza, the mega city will also bring major relief to the publishers operating from congested lanes of Nai Sarak and Darya Ganj in Old Delhi. ``It will have a dedicated Book City, spread across approximately 15 acres. It will be first of its kind in the country with all facilities for publishers to produce books and market them,'' the GDA vice-chairman told Times City. The Book City will be developed on the lines of Paju Book City in Seoul, capital of South Korea. ``It will be a publishers' and book lovers' paradise, a one-point destination for all book lovers,'' said Diwedi.
