The plan of water management for Gurgaon is in place and a solution to the long-standing problem of a lack of a storm water disposal system was also in the offing, a spokesperson of the Haryana Urban Development Authority said, here today. "A blueprint is in place to deal with the problem, land acquisition is being carried out and work has already begun," he claimed. Construction of solid waste management plants, shifting of garbage dumping sites and recarpeting of roads were the top priorities for HUDA, he said.

HUDA has spent Rs ,2022 crore of the Rs 2,967 crore collected up to September 2008 as External Development Charges (EDC). An amount of Rs 500 crore would be spent during this year for developing infrastructure.

The spokesman said the expenditure also included Rs 197 crore on the project of extension of Delhi Metro to Gurgaon. He said HUDA was committed to providing Gurgaon with basic infrastructure and services in a time-bound manner.

WITH THE number of dengue cases in the city increasing, residents here are a worried lot. Ardee City, especially, with its problem of waterlogging, finds itself even more vulnerable in this scenario. The residents' welfare association (RWA) of the area has complained to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and requested that immediate steps be taken to remove stagnant water from vacant land around the colony .

"It is a big nuisance just in front of the colony gate no 3.

The pool of slush is an eyesore and we have to bear the stench arising from there," rued Chanchal Verma, a resident of the area. Health is a vital concern here and the RWA officials say every other day they get complaints from the residents as dengue and malaria cases are rising.

The RWA office-bearers met HUDA superintending engineer, Pankaj Kumra, and gave him a letter early this month, elucidating that fear of dengue has gripped the residents. "He assured us of action, which is still awaited," said RWA general secretary, T. N. Kaul.

The plots lying vacant on the west side of Ardee City are filled with dirty water and, according to the residents, this is causing a lot of problems. "We are helpless and don't know what to do. The dirty surroundings are affecting the health of our children," said a resident, D. C. Pavagadi. The disposal of wastewater is a big problem in Gurgaon, as HUDA has yet to develop a proper system for it.

According to office bearers of the Ardee City RWA, wastewater from many adjoining areas is being directed towards vacant land in their area. "Our meeting with the HUDA officials has not yielded any positive result so far, even as residents continue to suffer. Some cases of dengue and malaria have been reported from here," said the president of the RWA, R. L. Meena.

The vacant plots around the complex have filled up and this slush is worrying the residents.
