Despite the authoriteis fixing the hours for power cuts in Gurgaon (eight hours daily) residents in Gurgaon said the power came and went throughout the day at its own whim and no schedules were adhered to. Puneet Kumar of DLF City said that the most irritating factor about the power situation was that when the residents query about when the power supply will be resumed, the complaint center attendants invariably answer that the supply has been cut off from the generating point.
Majority of the streetlights in the city, however, were kept switched off following the direction of the Deputy Commissioner in lieu of the power shortage in the state.
No one, however, seems to be serious of the administration's order not to use their air conditioners and other heavy electric gadgets till the present power crisis was seen through. Even the government departments were running their air conditioners despite explicit instructions to keep them off till further notice.
Besides the unscheduled powercuts, low voltage was another major problem during the day. Ms. Sonia of Palam Vihar said that even inverters are failing as they do not get enough time to recharge.
