I had an awesome Hyderabadi Biryani right here in Gurgaon

By Unregistered Visitors, Section Good Eating Places Around?
Posted on Thu Oct 20, 2005 at 01:54:58 PM EST

A friend referred this new home delivery chain called "Hydrabadi Biryani House" specialising in Hyderabadi cuisine to me recently and yesterday we ordered some Chicken & Mutton Biryanis from them for a get together.

I have shared the experience with several people since then and can't wait to tell whoever cares to listen about it. It is the most authentic biryani I have had outside of Hyderabad. The aroma filled the house and the aftertaste lasted a good half-an-hour.

Unlike most biryanis (or pulaos!!) available from various restaurants in town, this one is actually layered and comes with a special gravy that biryanis are supposed to be eaten with (and not green chutney like some restaurants serve!). Thank god we have an option to Dominos now for good quality food delivered at home. And still, the prices were good and portions generous! Let me know your experience with these guys.

You can call them on 5002500.

Deepak.

I LIVE IN DWARKA AND TODAY FOR THE THIRD TIME I ORDERD FROM THEM.  CHICKEN BRIYANI FOR THEM IS STAMED RICE WITH TWO CHICKEN LEGS, BHUNA IS ANYTHING BURNT WITH LOTS OF BURNT ONIONONS.  THE KORMA IS A REAL MILD GRAVY COOKED IN ALREADY USED UTENSILS IN WHICH THEY THOUGHT THEY MADE THEIR FOOD IN. AND IN BHUNA U ALWAYS GET CHICKEN LEGS.  BEING THE MOST UNHEALTHY PART, IT IS CHEAP.  AS FOR BHUNA GHOST U GET TWO LUMPS OF LAMB WITH MORE BONE.  I AM SENDING THE LATEST ORDER TO A LAB TO FIGURE OUT WHICH SIDE IT CAME FROM.

HAVING ATE IN HYD IN ALL PLACES FROM CHIC TO ROAD SIDE I THINK THEY SHOULD NOT USE THE NAME HYDERABAD.  A NEW NAME COULD BE INVENTA CHICKEN.

AND TO TOP THAT I ONCE ORDEREC ONE CHICKEN COMBO AND ONE MUTTON COMBO.  I GOT BUT WITH TWO CHICKEN BIRAYANIS.  I THINK THE DELIVERY GUY ATE MY MUTTON BIRYANI ON THE WAY.

Viva Hyderabad (none / 0) (#14)
by Unregistered Visitors on Wed Dec 26, 2007 at 10:28:29 AM EST

My friend I find your message highly amusing. I wonder what must have been going on in your mind that after being disappointed twice, you would order from the same place a third time! There must have been something you liked about this place of course...

Your posting here is actually a priceless gem, one that should be circulated widely. It had me in splits really...I dont know what they sent you when you asked for a Bhuna "Ghost"..! I always ask for a Bhuna "Gosht" and get exactly that, a Bhuna "Gosht" which means Mutton (not lamb - there is a huge difference in lamb & mutton - and if you are a connoisseur of Hyderabadi cuisine as you seem to suggest, you should know that authentic biryanis are made with mutton and not lamb). And incidentally, "Ghost" is a spirit, a "bhoot", in English...

Now for your next lesson in non-vegetarianism: leg pieces of poultry are the most sought after in North India, and the most expensive anywhere. In fact I saw an ad of Viva Hyderabad once proudly claiming that they are the only people around that promise two leg pieces in their chicken biryani. Why would anyone shout this from the rooftops if leg pieces were cheap?

As far as "healthiness" is concerned, chicken legs are as healthy as chicken breast or chicken wings. Hence you seem to e carrying a misguided notion that leg pieces are cheap or unhealthy. So my friend, if you have been missing out on life by avoiding leg pieces, stop worrying and start living. I hope you will thank me for this!

Finally, you also seem to be struggling for the spelling of this new rice dish...it is not briyani or birayani as you mention...it is Biryani: b i r y a n i. Hope you get that.

Finally I have nothing for or against Viva Hyderabad. I like biryanis at 3-4 places in the Delhi region, the others being Al Kauser, Karims, a guy in Old Delhi and Bukhara at the Sheraton. I have called for food from Viva a few times and have been satisfied. Apart from these few biryani places, I found rest of them dish out pulaos labeled as biryanis. And Viva is the only place that serves layered biryanis. So lets give these guys some credit and not say they are serving steamed rice...which is as laughable as your looking for Bhuna "Ghost" as your Sunday lunch fix.

Enjoy!

Pritam

I tried many places for Hydrabadi Biryani , but never got the real test.I also tried a shop in Sector 14 "Hydrabadi biryani" free home delivery, but sorry to say this taste was also not proper and quientity was very less comparision to Price.I can tell the place which is famous for Mutton Curry. The name of the shop is DEENA MEAT, it is near to Sohna chowk.Try it.
