Want to go Delhi University After CBSE 12th Exams? Here Are Some Guidelines ....By Shukla ji, Section Education
Here are some typical question on student's mind after the C.B.S.E. results we trying to give answer
*What if one wants to pursue a language course along with the regular bachelor's degree? What is the procedure? Diploma (part time) or certificate courses can be done with regular UG courses and they definitely help in a better career. Many colleges offer certificate courses in foreign languages. Please visit individual college website for details. Degree courses in some foreign languages are offered from Department of Germanic and romance studies at North Campus of the University. Please visit their webpage for contact details. *Is defence quota available in DU? If yes, how many seats are there? And what documents are needed? 5% of the total seats in each course offered by the University are reserved for Children of the Officers and Men of the Armed forces killed/disabled in action. Registration is done centrally at Faculty of Science, University of Delhi North Campus. There is no separate reservation for ward of Ex-servicemen. *Can students from outside Delhi send the pre-admission forms by post? No. Application forms received by post are not accepted. *Is the pre-admission form available online? No. A sample copy has been provided on DU's website (www.du.ac.in) *How does one get to know about the chances of getting admission in a particular course? There are no absolute guidelines for this. However, you should look at last year's cut-off marks for the course you want to apply for in different colleges. While nothing can be said regarding this year's cut-off percentages, it is usu ally expected that there is not much change from last year. However, the exact cut-off percentages depend on the general trend of marks in the CBSE and other qualifying examinations. *What about students with compartment in one subject? Yes, you can take provisional admission, subject to passing the compartment examination within stipulated time. *What about gap year students? DU rules do NOT stipulate refusal to a candidate because of a gap year. Gap year students are considered at par with other current year students with regard to their cut-off percentages. *How do SC/ST students apply? Admissions to reserved categories are done through the University. The reserved category pre-admission form has the facility of recording the various preferences. Source HT-24/5/2006
