My Bad Experience in getting a Gas Connection From Shanti Gas Service, Chakkarpur, (Gurgaon)

By asagarwal, Section Member Diaries
Posted on Thu Sep 28, 2006 at 12:02:16 AM EST

I would like to share the sheer "badmashi" & "dhandhali" of one of the Bharat Gas distributor Shanti Gas Service, Shop No. 18, Shiva Mark, Chakkarpur, (Gurgaon). Phone (0124) 2354199 / 2561799 / 2350899

I came to DLF in March 2006. Immediately after coming I enquired about the gas connection and was told by Shanti Gas Service that new connections were not being given that time. They asked me to check after a couple of weeks. Since March 2006 till last month I kept enquiring about the new gas connection and every time I was told that the new connections are not being given.

In August, I casually discussed about this problem with one of the colleague in my office and he immediately suggested me to check with Bharat Gas's office. After calling up in the offfice in Hissar & Faridabad I came to know the connections are very much open and is available immediately. I also got the mobile number of Mr. Tanyal who is Bharat Gas's manager this Gurgaon area. Mr. Tanyal assured me that the connection is open and I should go to Shanti Gas Service with all the relevant papers to get the connection.

I reached Shanti Gas and asked for the connection. The person sitting there showed no hesitation in lying again that new connections are not open and I should enquire next month. I called up Mr. Tanyal right in front of the person. Hearing Mr. Tanyal's name this person became nervous and started signaling me to hang up as he would give the connection. Nevertheless I made that guy speak to Mr. Tanyal and after that it took less than 10 minutes to get the new gas connection. Right there when the guy was preparing papers for my connection, two other guys came asking for the new connection and this person had the guts to lie to them also.

I felt like a complete fool standing there. I was trying for the connection since March'2006 and never doubting even for a second that the people in Shanti Gas Service are blatantly lying to me.

Imagine the condition of the people who are denied such basic amenities as gas connection. With the spurt of growth all around and India being recognized as the Information Technology power in the world, there are still shops like Shanti Gas Service who are sadly linked to the company of Bharat Gas repute. I felt ashamed of the people of my country and the fact that basic amenities are DENIED to common man just because some people in the chain are GREEDY & CORRUPT.

P.S: I would also like to show my sincere appreciation to Mr. Tanyal for helping me out so promptly.

So guys if you are facing problems in getting a gas connection call up the respective provider's office and seek help. These companies has really become consumer friendly.

Its good to know that you went further up the line and spoke to the concerned authority.

We complain a lot about corruption, but do little to put an end to it. As a principle one must oppose any corrupt practice, even if it means going an extra mile.

In a similar instance I was once asked Rs. 100.00 bribe to repair my main electricity meter. This meter had recently been replaced by the State Elec Board and therefore they were responsible for the fault. The local officials were not interested, and finally when they sent someone, the person started demanding money. I rang the CMD of the company, and although i could not speak to him, i spoke to his PR officer. Soon the local engineer was at my doorstep, apologizing and the meter was fixed in no time.

So protesting does work, and with vigilant media, its time we eradicate corruption from the country.

The person at gas agency was corrupted. I bet, if you would have shown him couple of 100 rs. he would have immeidately given you the connection.
We all have to fight the corruption. Its a tendency, every indian want to make 2nd source of income whether legal/illegal.

Why the Comapny has not taken action? (none / 0) (#2)
by Unregistered Visitors on Fri Sep 29, 2006 at 05:01:29 AM EST

As per your post, if Mr. Tanyal is aware of the situation, then why has Bharat Gas not taken action against Shanti Gas Service. This shop should be shut down by the company effective immediately and let someone honest take their place.

Till the companies realize that it is their good name that is being tarnished by these assholes, nothing will be done.

Mr. Tanyal: Take action now against any one of your distributors who are not providing the services they have signed up to deliver on your company's behalf. If you can not, pass onthe request to someone in your company who can take action.

Welcome to the real world. This is all what I can say. Gas is 1 one of the minor problems of life. There are people in this system, who could not care about a life of a person forget about ameninites of life.

But of course, I am not asking you to give up. We all have to work togeather to improve the system. Your article would definately wake up some one, so that the same does not carry on forever.

Capt. Rajeev Gupta
