HUDA assures repair of roads in two months

Responding to repeated complaints of broken roads in residential areas, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has assured to do the patchwork in two months.

This decision was taken at a recent meeting between the HUDA Administrator, S. P. Gupta, and members of the various RWAs.

"RWAs from across the city have complained about serious issues like half built community centres, potholed roads, barricading of the sectors, etc. We are planning to do the patchwork in two months and it will be started soon," said Gupta.

Potholed and broken roads inside and outside HUDA sectors are causing extreme problems especially in Sectors 9, 9A and 10. Col. Ram Singh Balwada, president, Sector 9 RWA, complained in the meeting about the proposed community centre that was never constructed as well as about the stink in the sector due to a water treatment plant. The HUDA administrator assured him that the community centre work will be completed in one month and that a garden will be constructed between the water treatment plant and the sector to stop the stink. HUDA will hire a consultant soon to solve this stinking problem. It is causing extreme health and hygiene hazards. In addition, residents are increasingly complaining of this, added Balwada.

Gupta also said that three private firms have been entrusted with the task of repairing the damaged portions of roads in Gurgaon within 24 hours of receiving complaints. Gupta said, "Earlier inviting bids and awarding the tender took a lot of time. Now there will be no such delay . The executive engineers concerned would have the freedom to give the work to any of the firms," he added. Gupta also said that the contractor constructing or recarpeting the roads would have to maintain the road for the next three years as per the contract. "On those roads, the name and telephone number of the contractors would be displayed. If commuters feel that any damaged portion needs immediate repair, they can call them up and we would ensure that the repair is done in 24 hours," Gupta claimed.

In another development, HUDA also made an immediate allocation of Rs 50 lakh to replace the water boosting motors in the city, that pump water to Gurgaon from the Basai canal. The authority had received complaints of disruption of water supply from different parts of the city. A representative of JAFRA, federation of RWAs, had raised the issue that the booster motors needed immediate replacement. Gupta said that to ensure that the city gets adequate water supply, gensets would also be installed to meet the eventuality of power failure.

Gupta assured RWAs that barricading would be done in all the sectors of HUDA soon.
