It seems civic authorities in Gurgaon have learnt little from past mistakes. A sewage line laid right across the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road near old DLF colony poses a serious hazard to residents and commuters alike.
The work, according to officials, started in August this year. "This stretch of the road is a major traffic obstruction since one side of it is dug right across and causes massive pile-ups especially during office hours and in afternoons when schoolbuses ply on it," said the traffic policeman who has been on duty. Officials added the manner in which work was carried out was irregular as labourers skip days in between work.
The dug-up portion has no barricades to caution motorists or pedestrians. Poor street lighting is another major concern among most residents in the area. "The road is like a trap and if the matter is not considered seriously, it is a mishap in the making," said a worried Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, who lives in the neighbourhood.
With a school right across the street, parents express concern over iron rods jutting out precariously in the middle of the road.
"I am worried about my son who rides a cycle to school. Any two-wheeler, be it a bike or a cycle, can skid on the pebbles scattered on the road and can land on these rods. This happened to a labourer here a few days ago," said a Sunita Narang, a resident of Old Gurgaon.
