The ``Chalta Firta'' (mobile) schools project of the state education department was inaugurated on Sunday.
The two vans equipped with the basic infrastructure of a classroom along with a variety of teaching and learning aids like VCDs and learning kits will provide educational facilities to out of school children and those living in red light areas, construction sites, railway stations etc. The scheme has been started under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
CM Sheila Dikshit, who flagged off the vans said that the ``schools'' will be operated on a public-private partnership basis with an MoU having been signed between the department of education and the Salaam Balak Trust and an NGO called Butterflies. Each school will be parked at four locations per day and ``classes'' will be held for two hours at each location.
While Butterflies will cover areas like Ashram, Bhogal, Nizamuddin, Lodhi Road Sai Baba Mandir, Daryagunj, Jama Masjid and Moti Bagh, SBT will be in charge of areas like Connaught Place, Mori Gate and G B Road. Once a week, the mobile schools will be used for awareness programmes related to health, dowry etc.
