The much touted underpass at the IGI airport that will connect it with Dwarka has finally received clearance from Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The underpass will solve the traffic chaos that one encounters at the first roundabout at the entrance of the airport since all traffic headed for Dwarka will be diverted on it and only that meant for the airport will be able to proceed further.
According to S N Srivastava, JCP (traffic), the project got DDA's sanction last week. ``We still have to call for tenders and complete other formalities before it can be commissioned. It will take another year before it can come into place,'' he said.
It will be made at the first roundabout that leads to the domestic airport. Traffic from the new flyover and that from NH-8 that is headed for Dwarka will be diverted on that. The underpass will also probably connect with the present underpass that brings traffic from Dwarka to the city and opens a little before the roundabout. ``There's a lot of chaos at this point and need a quick solution to the problem. However, till something more concrete doesn't work out, we are looking at short term measures,'' said a DIAL official.
