Decks have been cleared for the tentative commencement of classes of the recently sanctioned Sainik School from the forthcoming academic session here.
Col R.S. Nehra, along with deputy commissioner Chander Prakash and other senior officials of the district, inspected the newly constructed building of Government Primary School in Sector 4 as well as the building of the youth hostel here for this purpose. He would soon submit his report regarding the "suitability" of these two buildings to the defence ministry.
Subject to the clearance of the report by the defence ministry, classes of the Sainik School would be held in the Government Primary School, Sector 4, while building of the youth hostel would be used as students' hostel. The arrangement will continue till the accomplishment of the building of the Sainik
School on a 71-acre piece of land donated by the panchayat of Pali-Gothra village, 15 km from here, for this purpose.
The demand for a Sainik School in Rewari was raised by union minister of defence production Rao Inderjeet Singh as well as the irrigation and PWD minister, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, at Congress president Sonia Gandhi's rally here on October 7 last following which Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had simultaneously accorded his concurrence to the demand. Subsequently the Sainik School proposal was forwarded by the state government to the defence ministry which recently gave its nod to this regard.
