Shops in old Gurgaon would now remain open on Tuesdays, starting tomorrow. In a partial modification made to its earlier orders, of observing Tuesday as weekly holiday for all shops and commercial establishments including malls in Gurgaon city the Haryana Labour De , partment has now fixed Sunday as weekly holiday for all shops and commercial establishments falling in the jurisdiction of the old town.
Malls and shops in new Gurgaon would continue to down their shutters on Tuesdays. The only exemption would be the eateries, bars, saloons, chemist shops and cineplexes that can op erate seven days a week.
Gurgaon district magistrate Rakesh Gupta said the decision was taken after traders of Sadar Bazaar and other market places met the senior officials of labour department, demanding amend- ment in the earlier orders.
The new notification (Serial number 11/5/2008-4 labour) is- sued on Monday by the labour de- partment said shops in old Gurgaon would observe Sunday as closed day' with immediate effect. Tuesday will, however, remain to a 'closed day' for all malls, shops and commercial establishment falling in the ar- eas of DLF, South City and other newer areas in Gurgaon town. The government has amended its earlier notification no. 5/11/2008-4 labour dated February 27, 2008. The previous orders were modified by Naresh Gulati Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary , labour department of the Haryana government.
Those who do not want to shut shop on Tuesdays in New Gurgaon and on Sundays in old Gurgaon would have to seek exemption under section 9/10 of Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act 1958. Labour department officials said those who want to stay open seven days a week would have to seek special exemption from the government.
