The residents say that the Gurgaon Police should take a lesson from similar cases in Delhi, where the Police Commissioner has taken immediate steps for servant verification.
Several cases of theft, robbery and murder involving domestic helps don't seem to have moved the police. They have made no effort to step up servant verification.
The residents of Vatika City feel that this is the need of the hour They wish to meet the station house officer (SHO) of Sadar Police Station. The residents said that the Gurgaon Police must take a lesson from the spurt in crime involving domestic helps in Delhi, forcing the Police Commissioner to undertake immediate steps of servant verification.
"We are looking forward to meeting the police as early as possible, as we discussed this issue in a meeting with the colony residents last week," said Vakul Cowshik, a social activist.
She added that the local police should intervene in the matter and team up with the RWAs in order to take the necessary steps to collect the details of the domestic helps.
"This will instill confidence, especially among the senior residents who often stay alone at home," added Cowshik. Ajay Kumar, looking after the maintenance of the colony, said, "The police have never approached the residents for servant verification."
"We have informed the residents that it is their duty to deal with domestic helps. They will be responsible for any kind of mishap," added Ajay Kumar.
Most of the residents have hired domestic helps through private agencies. A. K. Bedi, a senior citizen living in Nirvana Society, said the same thing. "I will not pass any comment on the police but it is a fact that the police have not verified the servants."
A. S. Hooda, a resident of Sector 23, also said that the police rarely interact with the residents. "I think they should interact with the residents so that they come to know about their problems," Hooda added.
The police, however, claim that they collect details from the private agencies. "We have verified many servants and have asked the residents to approach police for verification."
Area ACP, Harish Kumar Dutta, said, "I cannot tell you exactly whether the police have visited a particular area or not. For that I will have to collect details from the concerned SHO."
