To facilitate barrier-free vehicular movement within the National Capital Region, Delhi and neighbouring states have decided to sign an agreement enabling unrestricted commuting of autos, taxis, chartered buses and the state-run buses within the zone.
The reciprocal Common Transport Agreement draft prepared by the urban development ministry was circulated among the constituent states of the NCR-- Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The agreement would be signed next month after the formal approval by the state governments. Once the agreement is signed, it would be operational after the due notification.
The states have agreed in principle to sign the agreement for facilitating hassle-free movement of commuters as well as goods across the NCR, urban development secretary M Ramachandran told PTI.
Currently, these vehicles are either barred from crossing state boundaries or made to pay hefty taxes. "The agreement will enable the unrestricted movement of vehicles run under contract carriage permits and stage carriage permits in the NCR zone," he said This will improve the connectivity within the NCR to a great extent, he said.
