To put an end to the erratic water supply due to frequent power cuts, the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) has decided to install independent feeders at the boosting stations.
The decision was taken at a meeting of senior officials of the MCF and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). Minister for Urban Local Bodies, A. C. Chaudhary chaired the meeting.
MCF Commissioner R. K. Khullar, MCF Chief Engineer N.K. Katara and DHBVN Executive Engineer Balwant Singh maintained that the short supply of water in the city is because of scheduled and unscheduled power cuts and frequent tripping. They were of the view that uninterrupted water supply can be made possible only if the sources of water supply are connected with an independent electricity feeder.
Katara said since the tubewells within the MCF area are scattered in different locations like parks, open spaces and green belts, it is not possible to connect all the tubewells with an independent electricity feeden At the meeting it was decided to provide an independent electricity feeder to the water supply boosting stations and nearby tubewells keeping in view the proximity of the electricity sub-station in order to minimise the cost, he added.
Katara said there are 25 boosting stations in the city and providing them uninterrupted supply when required, would increase the supply by 30 per cent. Khullar assured the minister that the MCF could provide funds up to Rs 3 crore for the purpose.
DHBVN ofilcials asked the minister if the MCF could provide cables and electricity poles, as the power department did not have them in their stock. They assured the minister that if the MCF supplied the material, work could begin in a fortnight.
It was decided at the meeting that the MCF would procure whatever material was required for the purpose. It would invite short tenders by making a high-level purchase committee to purchase the same on the spot.
Katara hoped that independent feeders would be installed at the boosting stations in a month. "We are quite hopeful that the exercise will be over in a month. This will mitigate the suf ferings of the residents of Faridabad to quite an extent," he said.
