Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday visited the proposed site, located 85km from Gurgaon and 110km from New Delhi.

The final word on the 500acre site, however, will come from the specially constituted committees of the central and state governments after their visits to the proposed site.

Haryana is one of 16 states given the green nod for setting up a central university by the National Development Council (NDC) in December, 2007 under the 11th Five Year Plan. The NDC also allowed Haryana to set up an IIM, proposed to come up in Rohtak.

The Haryana CM recently announced that the central university in the name of Lord Krishna would be opened in one of the districts of southern Haryana.

Equipped with facilities such as residential, commercial (market) and recreational (malls etc.), the project will cost around Rs 2,000 crore.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ateli constituency, Naresh Yaday said that the punchayat bodies of village Mirzapur Bachhor and Shahpur Deom of district Mahendergarh on Tuesday offered 500 acres of land to the Haryana CM for setting up the university.

"Mirzapur Bachhor has about 220 acres of land while village Shahpur Deom has thousands of acres of land. These village punchayats have already passed a resolution to collectively offer 500 acres of land to the state government for the central university," Yaday added.
