Haryana government to provide 100% job 'guarantee' to eligible Muslim girls

In a unique move, the Haryana government is considering to provide 100% job 'guarantee' to eligible Meo (Muslim) girls to solve the problem of shortage of women teachers in Mewat -- the most-educationally backward region of the state. As no teacher from other places wants to stay in this backward area, where people don't prefer to send their daughters to schools in the absence of women teachers.

"Moreover, only eight candidates got selected from Mewat out of total 3,400 teachers recruited recently in the state," said Sahida Khan, MLA from Taoru constituency of the district. Now, the government has found a way out 'to accommodate' Meo girls with a proposal of separate Mewat Cadre for recruitment. "People from all areas would be eligible to apply for recruitment, but with a condition that the selected candidates will have to stay in Mewat district only," said Anurag Rastogi, special secretary, school education, on Tuesday.

In fact, in a recent meeting, education secretary Rajan Gupta suggested that government should make a policy, in which all JBT Meo girls should be appointed permanent teachers in government schools in Mewat. It was also decided that director elementary education or director secondary education would move a file to the state government in this regard. But without a separate cadre, it was difficult for the government to provide an opportunity to local people. Gupta told TOI that they are looking at various angles related with the proposal.

In a recent survey, in Mewat district, 84,000 children don't go to school against state's figure of 1.6 lakh. Inquiries conducted by the TOI revealed that all government employees posted in Mewat district after a few months get themselves transferred to their native places.
