With the arrival of four new Volvo buses at the Haryana Roadways office Chandigarh today, the commuters on the Chandigarh-Delhi route will now have more options.
The introduction of these new buses, which will run through the week, is expected to ease the rush in the Kalka Shatabadi.
In another week's time these new buses will begin their services from ISBT, Sector 17 plying on the Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon route. Three of the four buses will cater to the Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon Airport route while the fourth will operate on the Delhi-Chandigarh route. The Haryana Roadways has applied for permit from the District Transport Office, Panchkula, which is expected to be received by this week. These buses are worth nearly Rs 65 lakh each and have arrived from Volvo,Bangalore.
With the fares expected to be lesser than the Shatabdi, the passengers are happy. They have another reason to rejoice as refreshments will also be served in the bus.
"The fare has not been decided yet, but will surely be lesser than Shatabadi. For the first time refreshments like juice, cold drinks and eateries will be provided to the passengers," said K S Kalson, General Manager, Haryana Roadways, Chandigarh.
He added that another six Volvo buses will be added to the route in three months.
Volvo buses were, earlier, run by Haryana Roadways on lease basis but the services had been stalled for the last few months owing to alleged discrepancy in the company. The Roadways, therefore, took a decision to buy its own Volvo buses and operate these on their own. Volvo buses on this route are currently run only by Himachal Roadways, four times a day.
