Sector 21 one of the oldest sectors fails to attract administrative attentionBy Riti, Section Civic Problems in Gurgaon
Civic nuisance has long been a setback for residents of Sector-21. Yet nothing seems enough to attract the authority's attention
The state's urban development authority might be maintaining that it is putting all possible efforts to improve life in Millennium City, but the ground realities reveal a different picture in Sector 21. Despite being one of the oldest sectors of the city, Sector 21 fails to attract administrative attention in regards to road renovation, water supply, sanitation and other civic facilities. Road condition in Sector-21 has long been in a deplorable condition and is deteriorating by the day. The recent spell of shower took its toll on residents and the commuters submerging roads under accumulated water. With worn out carpeting, most roads in Sector 21 offer a rough ride for commuters even during the dry seasons. Blocked drainage and overflowing sewer water on the colony roads have been another concern area of the residents lately. Click on Full Story for more.
"Ever since we have been living in this area, we have not seen the colony in such a bad shape. Dirty water seen all around the colony has been causing lot of problems to the residents. Often we find it difficult to move around in the colony for these problems. We are apprehensive of serious health hazards if authorities do not take corrective measures at the earliest," says the Khanduja family, one of the affected residents of Sector 21.
Residents also allege that trucks and HTVs make their way into the colony and are parked on vacant plots along the market road of Sector 21. And water realities become evident from resident GK Nayyar's description: "Recently the entire area suffered an acute dry spell of lasting four days. When residents went to the supply office in Sector 17, we are informed that it was because of motor failure. We were surprised to find out that the responsible agencies neither have a standby motor nor appeared interested in having one." The area RWA has been voicing residents' concern at various level, but apparently maintained too low a frequency to invite any reaction. Representatives of the RWA have also carried their civic concerns to the HUDA Administrator Shrikant Walgad, but no concrete action has been initiated till now. When HUDA official were asked about deteriorating civic infrastructure in Sector 21, they said works for cleaning sewers channels are carried out following reports from field officers and residents. Work for the clearing is carried out both manual and with machines. While HUDA authorities do the cover up act, situation in the area remains dismal. Source:Gurgaon Plus 16thJuly2008.
