On Repeated pleas by the flat owners living in the northern colonies of the city the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) has extended the facility for obtaining water and sewer connections till July 31.
Thousands of families live in multi-storied flats constructed by various colonisers, particularly on the periphery of Faridabad in the north. Earlier, more than one water connection on a plot of land under the municipal area was illegal.
However, with a view to regularise water and sewer connections and earning revenue, the MCF House in its February 25 meeting, decided that a lumpsum be taken from the applicants. The last date for regularisation was March 31.
But in view of the large number of applicants, the MCF has extended the date tn July 31. "All people living in these flats are getting water supply and using sewer lines illegally The date has been extended to cover as many beneficiaries as possible," said an MCF official.
The MCF has to regularise over 3,500 water and sewer connections. The applicants will have to furnish the ownership right of the flat for availing the scheme.
In the February 25 meeting of the House, the councillors had maintained that the municipal agency charged Rs 2,000 each as penalty for regularising water and sewer connections, besides charging Rs 2,365 on account of road cutting charges. On an average, the total charges for regularising water and sewer connection came to nearly Rs 10,000. Instead, the house decided to charge a flat amount of Rs 11,000 from each applicant. The municipal agency will earn over Rs 4.25 Crore from consumers at the rate of Rs 11,000 per flat.
