The Haryana Cabinet on Wednesday decided to upgrade five roads on a build-operate-and-transfer basis at a total cost of Rs.537.54 crore, according to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

These are Chandimandir-Jallah road, Bhuria-Khadri-Deodhar-Nainawali road, Yamunanagar-Ladwa-Karnal road, Gurgaon-Faridabad road and Ballabhgarh-Pali-Dhauj-Sohna road.

The Chief Minister said a feasibility study of these roads had been conducted and detailed project reports had been prepared by the consultants engaged by the Haryana State Roads and Bridges Development Corporation.

The Cabinet also decided that two per cent of the State's own tax revenue be devolved upon rural and urban local bodies for three years -- from 2006 to 2009 -- after adjusting the funds already released.
Recommendation

This decision was taken while accepting the recommendation of a Cabinet sub-committee headed by the Chief Minister thus setting aside a total sum of Rs.637.94 crore for local bodies from 2006-07 to 2008-09, Mr. Hooda added.

The State's own total tax revenue accounts for Rs.36,840.18 crore from 2006-07 to 2008-09.

Mr. Hooda said the Government had made a provision of Rs.199.28 crore in the budget for the year 2008-09 for devolution to local bodies. The Government had already released Rs.275 crore during 2006-07 and 2007-08.

The Cabinet also decided to create a statistical cell in the Directorates of Panchayats as well as Urban Local Bodies.

Mr. Hooda also announced the tying up of 1,320 MW of power required to meet the shortfall of 4,000-5,000 MW of power likely to be faced by the State by 2012.

He disclosed that China Light Power Limited would be the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the thermal sector in Haryana selected on the basis of competitive bidding mechanism.
