THE RESIDENTS of Sector 7 Extension have approached the Administratol Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), about the poor state of the colony parks. They were disappointed, as the HUDA had not agreed with the demands of the RWA. The HUDA is learnt to have rejected the RWA demand to maintain the six colony parks. Following this, the RWA began maintaining two colony parks after raising funds.
The other four parks are still in a state of neglect. In most of the HUDA sectors, the Horticulture Department monitors the parks through private contractors. In some sectors, the RWAs maintain the parks themselves. However, in Sector 7 Extension, where there are only six parks, the HUDA has refused to pay the RWA more than Re 1 per sq m (parameter for park-maintenance fee for private con- tractor and the RWAs).
"We refused the HUDA proposal as the amount (approximately Rs 3,000 per month) was too little to meet even the actual expenditure in maintaining the colony parks," said Dilip Mukherjee, an RWA office bearer The residents have now decided to take up responsibility of maintaining at least one park and develop it as a role model. "It will be better than any HUDA-maintained parks. We have started generating funds from the residents," added the secretary of the RWA, Chandrabhan.
But the authorities in the Horticulture Department denied the RWA allegation and said that the department has no ill will towards the Sector The executive engineer, Jasvir Singh Meelu, Horticulture Department said, "RWAs in other sectors are maintaining parks on the same terms and conditions. We will speak with the RWA and sort out the dit^ferences shortly".
