Narrow road, heavy traffic & high-voltage transformers,at Sector 7 main entranceBy Riti, Section Roads in Gurgaon
At a time when various Gurgaon neighbourhoods are vying with each other to create an impressive entrance to their colony, Sector 7 in Gurgaon stands as the odd one out. While other residential colonies are using greenery or some sort of attractive arrangement to wow the visitors coming into their neighbourhood, AT Sector 7, the job is being done by (believe it or not) high voltage transformers! Almost seems that they're ready to give the visitors an electrifying welcome!
![]() Sector 7 has four gates which are opened for commuters in turns at regular interval of 2 months. Problem creeps up when gate number 3 gets opened as there is a pair of semi open transformers across the road just opposite this gate. These transformers not only obstruct the free flow of traffic on this road, but also make it one of the most accident prone spots in the colony. With the opening of gate number 3 all the traffic flow happens through it. However, the traffic snarl reaches its peak during morning hours between 7-9 am and afternoon around 2 pm when all the school buses from different schools come to pick up and drop the students of the colony to and from their respective schools. About 14-15 huge school buses and groups of school going kids and their parents make this road totally jam-packed. Given such a heavy rush anybody a little careless can bump into the open transformers and meet up with a severe accident. Click on Full Story for more
When Gurgaon Plus probed further, residents expressed great displeasure at the risky situation prevailing here. "It's nothing but a disaster waiting to happen. Many a times there are short circuits or fuse failures. Sometimes we also have small fires when dried leaves and rags come in contact with the transformers. God forbid but if ever the transformer explodes on such a busy road which is mostly used by school kids I'm afraid of the consequences" says Daljit Singh Khokhar, a resident of House no 28, Sector7. When Gurgaon Plus tried to contact the Urban Estate RWA, they expressed helplessness saying that Sector 7 is no more a part of their jurisdiction. "We are looking after Sector 7 only in records. Other than that no resident has ever come to us with such a complaint," says E Kumar, general secretary, Urban Estate RWA. However, when GP spoke to the area councillor Gargi Kakkar, she said that she was working towards solving this problem. "Since the transformer has been there for last 25 years, it will be very difficult for me to shift it immediately. However, the good news is that I have already applied for making the road two ways. The file has been sent to Chandigarh for its approval. Once it gets approved and work starts as per plan the transformer would automatically get removed and a divider will be put in its place," says the area councillor.
