aryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh on Tuesday announced plans to launch a scholarship scheme for students belonging to the Backward Classes (Category `A') from November 14, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Addressing an impressive gathering of people belonging to the Backward Classes Category `A' at his residence here, Mr. Hooda said that about 1.5 lakh students would benefit under the scheme.
He disclosed that the students of Backward Classes (Category `A') had also been included in the monthly scholarship scheme announced for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and below poverty line.
He also announced plans to launch a new scheme for giving 100 square yard residential plots to the families belonging to Backward Classes (Category `A') from November 14 this year.
With this announcement, people belonging to 71 castes of Backward Classes `A' of Haryana would benefit.
Mr. Hooda said the communities belonging to Backward Classes-A constituted a major part of the country's population which mainly comprises artisans.
