From Chaat Papri To Grilled Chicken, Gurgaon has somthing for everyoneBy Sumit Kumar, Section Good Eating Places Around? As a cyber hub and a world class city Gurgaon has lots to lure people from all over. So much so that it is fast becoming a city of mixed cultures and varied living styles. Along with the population explosion there has also been an explosion of eating outlets to cater to the varied taste of the residents of the city .Along with the traditional chaat papri shops the city is peppered with Gujarati, Punjabi, South Indian and North Indian restaurants. There are several places in old and new Gurgaon for Punjabi cuisine. However, people prefer to go to Punjabi-by-Nature at Infinity Tower, DLF-III. "I prefer Punjabi-by-Nature to any other place in Gurgaon. We go there at least once or twice a month. My husband has also found the place reasonable in terms of both quality and price," said Indu Gupta, a resident of Sector 45. She says they find this place so nice that they have even thrown parties here for friends. She visits this place whenever she feels a change is the need of the hour. Another favourite for Punjabi food is the Baluchi, at Leisure Valley, known for its quality food at reasonable prices. "We are regulars at Baluchi. We have a special feeling for this restaurant. Other members of our family too share our views," say Shivani and Pankaj Gupta, residents of Sushant Lok Estate, Sector 52. For those who like grilled-chickenover-Greek-salad, Pankaj Gupta says the food court at MG Mall is the place to go to. "I personally like grilled-chickenover-Greek-salad, and my favourite place in the city is MG Mall and Mega Mall. But since my wife loves Punjabi food we often visit Baluchi," he says. No food talk is complete without mentioning South Indian cuisine. Gurgaon has Madrasi restaurants to Udupi to Naivedyam for a lavish South Indian spread. Many prefer Naivedyam to the others. "We have a special liking for South In dian food. We prefer to go to Naivedyam because of the quality of food and also because it is not too far from our residence," says Maria Mishra, who lives in Ardee City .
Naivedyam is located at Vipul Square, Sushant Lok Phase-I, and is quite popu lar not just with the South Indians in Gurgaon but also the North Indians for its good food at a reasonable price. "Whenever we are late from office we prefer eating out and at Naivedyam," says Maria Mishra. But for her husband Rajesh Mishra, there is no substitute for Gujarati food. Which is why he visits Rajdhani near IFFCO Chowk at least once a week. Rajdhani offers a mix of both Rajasthani and Gujarati food. The story of eating out would be incomplete without the mention of the dhoda of Om Sweets in Sector 14 and chaat-paapri of Bikanerwala in Sector 29. These are evergreen items liked by the young and the old alike. "I like chaat-papri and whenever I get time I visit Bikanerwala for the same," says Man Mohan Gupta of Sector 45. "And when we need sweets we go to Om Sweets for their tasty dhoda," he adds. In Old Gurgaon, sweet shops like Om Sweets, Nathu's, Sham Sweets and Rewari Sweets have quite a good reputation. "The burfi of Rewari and dhoda of Om Sweets are some of our favourite sweet items. We quite often get these from these two shops," said R. P. Aggarwal of Lajpat Nagar Colony, Old Gurgaon. For namkeen items there are shops in Sadar Bazaar, Old Gurgaon, that sell stuff like mamanwala gujia and bihariki-namkeen, dahiwala gujia, etc. These have a lot of takers. "We visit these places regularly to buy the namkeens," said Urmila Garg of Mahavirpura. Source: HT's Live, Aug-28-2008
