Gurgaon Residents Assured Better PolicingBy sachiv, Section Gurgaon Police
Rao Dharmpal, senior vice president of Haryana State Congress Committee and a former Haryana minister, who met the residents of Sector 21 recently has assured improvement in police patrolling and reduction in the crime graph. He gave this assurance af ter talks with Gurgaon Police Commissioner, Mohinder Lal.
"The Commissioner told me he would increase patrolling and depute constables as per the need," he said. The former minister had also submitted a letter from the residents to Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on August 25 when the CM was on a visit to the city. The movement at a political level is understood to have been important in the wake of two major protests against J. K. Malhotra, SHO, Palam Vihar. Following the protests and the meet with the Commissioner he was demoted. The demand for better police vigil and resentment against the SHO was because of an attack on the president of the Sector 23 RWA last month and a major theft in a house in Sector 21. However, the residents have many grievances against the city police. It remains to be seen to what extent the police assurances meet the expectations of the residents. "The Police Commissioner, the DCP and the CM have assured that things would become better," said Dharampal. But the residents are skeptical about whether the pressure has really affected the police. "We went to meet Rao Dharampal, which is a clear indication of the widening gap between the residents and the police. We urged the former minister to put pressure on the police to provide guaranteed security to us," said S. N. Yadav of Sector 21. "We welcome the step the Commissioner took against the alleged SHO, but that is not the solution. We expect strong police patrolling and proper investigation of the recent crimes," added Yadav.
Similarly A. S. Hooda of Sector , 23, who was attacked in his residence, said that the police have not yet revealed whom they have arrested in the case. He alleged that he and his family members had been harassed by a group of about 20 people for over two months before the attack. "The police say they have arrested eight out of the 11 people I had named in my FIR. I want to know who they are. How can they be sure unless and until I give my witness," alleges Hooda. In the district grievance committee meeting, the police have always been the target of several complaints and the Haryana Finance Minister Virender Singh, as usual only gives assurances. "He told the ACP present in the meeting to give us details of investigations but that has not happened," alleges Hooda. The Commissioner, on the other hand, has assured everything possible to improve the law and order scenario in the city He was speaking to the residents re . cently when he visited the house where the theft took place.
