To showcase India's rich cultural heritage and diversity and to entertain people, the Delhi Government is chalking out a plan to organise cultural evenings during the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced on Thursday.
Ms. Dikshit, who convened a meeting on the issue at Delhi Secretariat, urged eminent cultural personalities to prepare a list of venues and detail of programmes to be organised. The Delhi Government would be bringing out a calendar of events for the convenience of visitors, she said.
At the meeting, it was also decided that the cultural events should be spread across various venues all over the Capital such as Nehru Park, Central Park of Connaught Place, Red Fort, Old Fort, Feroze Shah Kotla, Rabindra Bhawan, Humayun's Tomb, Safdarjang Tomb, India Gate and Commonwealth Games Village.
It was also decided that establishment of more food courts and illumination of historic buildings and other monuments should be considered for the much awaited sporting carnival.
The reason behind these events, it was pointed out, was that the Government would like to showcase the cultural diversity of the country and the composite culture of Delhi.
