The Haryana Education Department is considering a proposal of the Haryana Child Welfare Council to set up 423 education centres in the State, Council vice-president Asha Hooda said in Ambala on Monday while inaugurating a camp to educate the children on how to live together.
Ms. Hooda, the wife of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, further disclosed that the Council had also forwarded a project to the Central Government for imparting training to women and girls for taking up self-employment ventures.
She said 110 children from various districts of Haryana, Bal Kunj, Chhachrauli and Asha Kunj, Rewari, are participating along with their teachers. The camp coincides with the 62nd birthday of the Chief Minister.
Haryana State Child Welfare Council honorary secretary Manju Gupta said the children of martyrs and handicapped soldiers of Kargil conflict were being given scholarships of Rs.500 per month, she said, adding that 248 orphaned children had been adopted thanks to the efforts of the Council. Out of these 72 were adopted by foreigners.
A blood donation camp was organised by the Narnaul district administration on the occasion of Mr. Hooda's birthday.
