If all goes well, the Global Corridor along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway will soon have sector specific parks and sub-cities

It has been one of the most talked about development projects in the state. The Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway is back in news for all the good reasons. According to the latest developments, a global corridor will be developed along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway for industry specific parks and sub-cities. This has been planned to ensure that such economic activities shape up in a systematic manner.

The Gurgaon District, will have five theme cities as proposed in the plan. These include a Fashion City, Entertainment City, World Trade Center, Leisure City and Retail Merchandiser Warehouse Center. Similarly, for Jhajjar District, a Cyber City, Bio-sciences City and Medicity were proposed. In Mewat, Leisure and Leather cities were proposed. While in Palwal District, a Dryport City has been proposed.

The 135 long KMP Expressway passes through six districts of Haryana namely Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal. The 100 meter wide expressway will have a green belt of 100 meter each on both sides with 100 meter wide Orbital Rail Corridor towards Delhi.

Talking about the same, Commissioner of Gurgaon Division DPS Nagal, who recently had a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of all the six districts through which KMP Expressway passes, said, "We have asked all the concerned officials to ensure and work out a cumulative plan envisaging all aspects of development along the expressway.

The natural contours for flow of water should also be kept in mind before finalising the plan." The project named Global Corridor is being prepared to provide an opportunity for different specialised sectors and place them in a planned area with world class facilities.

The spatial plan of the corridor would be developed around a number of specialised economic activities which can trigger and sustain economic growth. Each lead economic activity is envisaged to be the focus of a self sustaining, specialised and independent cluster city.

In between these nodes, recreational, forest and green areas will also be developed. According to a senior officer of Gurgaon district administration, the development of cluster cities would be governed by the threshold population required for sustaining the physical and social infrastructure.

According to them the focus of the spatial plan for KMP Global Corridor is on determining the optimum use of land in the two kilometer wide stretch falling on both sides of the expressway. However, while finalising the proposals, emphasis has been on freezing the land use of the entire area forming part of the controlled area towards Delhi border.
