All the four parks in Sector 56 are in a poor state. Since they are devoid of greenery the residents are literally feeling the heat. There are five parks in the colony, which falls under the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
Of these, a school has adopted one for maintenance. The rest are under the horticulture department of HUDA. There is no gardener, no water, broken boundary walls and swings and benches in the parks. Also, there is no security to check the entry of unwanted elements."We met officials in the horticulture department a few months back and urged them to improve these parks. They have been in this miserable state for almost five years," said S. D. Bharadwaj, president of the RWA of Sector 56.
"We fail to understand the argument that there is a dearth of funds to maintain these parks, since we have paid for a good civic condition. Since the authorities do no care, we try our best to look after the parks," said M. L. Gandhi, a resident.
The residents fear that like every year, they will not be able to go for their regular walk in summer and there will be no respite in the form of greenery .
"We feel the pinch more in summer as in the absence of greenery these four parks are , totally deserted," said R. S.Sanga, secretary of the RWA.
The authorities, on the other hand, stated that children playing in these parks have ruined the greenery and there is no stopping them.
Jasveer Singh Meelu, executive engineer horticulture department, HUDA, said, "We are doing our best. We will extend any help to those who wish to cooperate in maintaining these parks. Such a facility has been extended in some localities where the RWAs have come forward to take some responsibility ."
