No Signal On MG Road IntersectionBy Riti, Section Gurgaon News
There is no traffic signal on the intersection opposite Kisaan Haat on the Mehrauli Gurgaon (MG) Road. If the situation continues then the problems of the daily commuters to Gurgaon from Delhi and vice versa and the residents of the nearby Mehrauli village is not going to be solved soon and this will only lead to accidents and injuries. Ironically, the traffic police are not even thinking of providing a traffic signal at this intersection. The road becomes all the more dangerous because just opposite the open ing of the Mehrauli Village is a cut that is used for taking a U-turn towards Delhi.
"During the day this intersection becomes more dangerous and accident prone. There is no traffic constable at this place and only during major traffic jams, is a traffic constable visible," informs Satya Prakash, who owns a small kiosk along the road opposite Kisaan Haat. A few months back, the traffic police had directed the Public Works Department to make clear zebra crossings on the main roads of Delhi, specif ically where there are traffic signals. Thus, white lines were repainted to make them visi ble on the roads in front of Saf darjung Hospital and Adchini. But nothing was done on the MG Road even then, consider ing traffic of two states uses this road. Also since there is no signal here there is no ques tion of having zebra crossings here as per the order. Rupinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), SouthWest Zone, clarifies that the pedestrian crossing is only made where the traffic signals are present. "Considering the flow of traffic on this route, action needs to be taken on this intersection. Since the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is working near Kisaan Haat, we will have to confirm from them the time required by them," says Kumar. But the fact is that since the DMRC work is not happening exactly at the intersection why should there be a problem in installing traffic signals at the intersection?
