Incomplete Sector 10 Booths Irk ResidentsBy Riti, Section Gurgaon News
The construction of eight economy booths is underway in Sector 10 for the past two years. However, till date the construction has not gone beyond the partial construction of the walls in the facility to be developed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
It had earmarked sites and plots for these booths in the original layout plan about two decades ago. The construction finally started two years back but even that has been left incomplete. The Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 10 has taken up the issue with HUDA many times. It is important to note that the HUDA awarded the contract for construction of these booths but it did not pressurise the contractor to complete the project within a specified time limit. When asked, the contractor, Kuldip Kataria, said, "We will try to complete the project in one or two months time. There were some complications in the project, which have been sorted out very recently." He said that some electric wires were creating a problem in the construction as they came in the way. Secondly, there were not enough labourers. These problems have been solved now, he said. But the residents refuse to subscribe to this argument, stating that the project was awarded a long time back and was being delayed without any apparent reason. "We are shocked that despite our repeated complaints against the contractor, the HUDA did not pay any attention," said Joginder Sandhu, former RWA president. "On the contrary the HUDA , has perhaps awarded him another project to construct the first floor of the community centre. The contractor has not been able to complete a small project like the economy booths, imagine what will happen to the community centre project," he added. "The delay in the completion of the project is affecting the residents. However, the authorities are least concerned. Besides, the vacant land or incomplete project sites have become dumping grounds and a health hazard," said Col (retd) S. S. Yadav, president of the Sector 10 RWA. "We are likely to take up this issue with the HUDA Administrator along with some other pending projects. The residents are fed with the laid back approach of the HUDA," added the RWA president. When asked, V. K. Gupta, concerned sub divisional officer (SDO), said, "We have issued a warning to the contractor asking him either to complete the project in one month or his contract would be cancelled." "The department will taken strict action against the contractor if there is any more delay," added the SDO. Source:Hindustan Times Incomplete Sector 10 booths irk residents
