The traffic police have drawn up a new traffic circulation plans to ease the jams at Kirbi Place crossing in Delhi Cantonment. In a bid to reduce the waiting time at the crossing for those headed to the heart of the city from west Delhi colonies like Janakpuri, Hari Nagar, Tilak Nagar, etc, the cops are now going to open an additional lane of road space on the opposite carriageway for this stream of vehicles.

The new traffic circulation will be in effect during the morning rush hour from 8 am to 11 am when an artificial median of connected conical bollards will be placed on the opposite side of the road to allow vehicles moving towards National Highway-8 to use. The additional lane will basically be used by traffic headed right from the main crossing towards Gopinath Bazar and the Cantonment.
The decision to give this side of the intersection more priority was taken after it was observed that the number of vehicles coming from Delhi Cantonment flyover and Janakpuri side was very high during the morning rush hour.
``The traffic plan is being tried out for a few days. After some time, we are also considering a similar contraflow on the opposite direction during the evening rush hour,'' said S N Shrivastava, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
