Taking a cue from the Punjab government's decision to ban ACs in government offices and asking public servants to report for work at 7.30am and shut shop at 1.30pm, neighbouring Haryana on Sunday banned ACs in its offices. The Bhupinder Singh Hooda government, however, didn't alter the official timings.
In an official communication to various departments, the Haryana chief secretary said the order would be implemented in letter and spirit. Except for hospitals, ACs will not be used in government offices, boards, corporations, universities and local bodies within and outside the state, the communication said.
Meanwhile, some farmers in Punjab are planning to lease out their farmlands because of delayed monsoon and no end to power woes. At a time when paddy transplantation is at its peak in Punjab, insufficient power supply, absence of rain and shortage of canal water have made it difficult for farmers to go ahead with farming.
