Hooda Announces Free Indoor Treatment To Poor PatientsBy akansha, Section GN
Haryana chief minister today announced free indoor treatment to the poor patients in Government hospitals, and said that for orthopaedic surgeries, the implants would also be provided free of cost to the poor.
The chief minister was interacting with mediapersons shortly after launching the Surgery Package Programme at Panchkula, near here today. "The Surgery Package Programme launched today is perhaps the first of its kind in the country," the chief minister claimed. Hooda said that under the Surgery Package Programme, while those living Below the Poverty Line (BPL) and in urban slums would get the facility of completely free surgeries, for others the package would provide cost effective treatment and at rates which were significantly less as compared to the private hospitals. The package aimed at providing hassle free surgery facility to the patients, he said. Hooda said that it has also been decided to upgrade six district hospitals at Faridabad, Gurgaon, Bhiwani, Sonipat, Rohtak and Hisar. The surgery package includes all tests and investigations related to surgery, total cost of surgery and stay in hospital, and post-operative treatment including medicines.
Hooda said that Surgery Package Programme has received a good response as out of a total of 502 patients registered in the State under this programme, 160 of them underwent surgeries today, some of these surgeries were in progress in various hospitals. Out of these, the facility of free surgery was provided to 101 patients, which could cost them Rs 10 lakh in private hospitals. These 101 patients included 42 patients hailing from BPL families, said Hooda.
The chief minister said that the programme of giving free medicines in Government health institutions has already proved a big success as the number of patients coming for treatment in Out Patient Departments (OPDs) has increased considerably.
