![]() Union Minister of Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy on Friday announced that his ministry would soon consider issuing a formal sanction for the project. The minister was in Gurgaon to inaugurate the trial run of Metro's Gurgaon line with five metro stations. The Metro line between Qutub Minar and Gurgaon will be commercially launched in the first week of May. On extending the Metro line further into Haryana, Reddy said, "Delhi is getting congested. The national capital and its neighbouring cities would form one of the biggest urban agglomerations in the world 10 years from now." "We want Delhi to be decongested and the neighbouring cities would have to share the burden." But the minister was quick to add that Haryana would have to bear the cost of extending the Metro line in its other towns.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, in an earlier meeting with Reddy in Delhi, had agreed to bear the entire cost of the Metro's extension projects in its towns.
EXPANSION WITHIN GURGAON The Haryana government is already working on a massive project of Metro extensions within Gurgaon city. The state government has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the Metro's extension to its upcoming integrated township IMT Manesar. The DMRC is already preparing a DPR for the proposed hi-speed metro link between Gurgaon and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi. Responding to a question by local Member of Parliament Rao Inderjit Singh on improving transportation infrastructure in Gurgaon, the Haryana Chief Minister said he has asked DMRC chief E. Sreedharan to prepare a report for the proposed extension to IMT Manesar.
