Cops Turn On Charm To Impress The Cosmopolitan CitizensBy Addie, Section Gurgaon Police ![]() Often in the news for their incompetence in dealing with cyber crimes, the satellite city police plan to turn on their charm full steam to impress the cosmopolitan citizens. They are learning English and working to improve their behaviour. What's more, the police have asked the government for funds so that police stations can offer tea and snacks to anyone who visits them to lodge a complaint. " We have requested the government to allot us funds so we can give at least Rs 5,000 to each police station in Gurgaon every month. The complainant should be treated like a customer -- he is our guest and we are there to help him," police commissioner S. S. Deswal said. " This measure will create a good image of the police among the public," he added. The city's police, often said to be unruly and uncouth, have been told to keep their aggression in check while dealing with the public and observe proper etiquette. " Professional experts will be engaged for training officials from the rank of SHO to constables.
This also becomes important in view of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October," Deswal added. Gurgaon will host the Games shooting event at the Kadarpur shooting range and can expect a lot of foreign visitors to watch the event. Constables are being taught to speak in English so they don't face any problem in dealing with the cosmopolitan population and communicating with foreign visitors. " At the same time, they should be courteous," Deswal added. The decision to impart lessons in good conduct and public dealing came keeping in mind the high literacy rate and the large number of educated people living in Gurgaon. " Not even one per cent of the population is involved in criminal activity. " We are against the criminals -- roughly 0.5 per cent of the population. The rest of the citizens should feel free to come to us. Our mutual understanding will increase the confidence of the public and help us curb crimes," he said. The police have started security drills along the Kadarpur Road, which will lead Games athletes to the venue. The Gurgaon Police have demanded more manpower and are expected to get 800 more constables before the Games. " Once we have enough manpower, we will focus on improving the traffic management especially at important intersections of Old Gurgaon. More constables will be deployed to manage the traffic," Deswal added.
