Wembley Estate: Residents Blame HUDA For Their No Proper Water Supply & Dilapidated RoadsBy yogisharma, Section Civic Problems in Gurgaon ![]() Among the most pressing issues that concern the residents of Wembley Estate, Sectors 49 and 50, are the pathetic condi- tions of roads, absence of street- lights, poor water supply and sewage disposal system. Resentment has been brew- ing among the residents for the past few years. Especially as there has been no response to the numerous reminders sent by the residents welfare asso- ciation (RWA) to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) seeking urgent action. Though HUDA has collected external development charge (EDC) for many facilities, it has failed to deliver in reality. "It is a sanctioned township developed by the Eros Group as per the HUDA rules. It is sad to see that even after a decade, basic amenities like proper roads and sewage have not been pro- vided," says Rajender Dubey, president, Wembley Estate wel- fare association.

DRAINAGE
As sewer and stormwater lines have been laid in patches here, the drainage system is not connected to the main drain outside the colony. Accumulation of sewer water in small ponds at various places around the locality and also on the main connecting road has become a breeding ground for mosqui- toes.
STREETLIGHTS "Every now and then cases of snatching and eve-teasing are reported from the area but the police have chosen to turn a blind eye to the problem," said Pramod Agrawal, secretary Wembley Estate welfare asso- ciation. "I won't stay here any longer if HUDA does not provide us all the necessary facilities as we have paid a lumpsum amount in advance in the name of EDC It is our right to get these civic amenities," says Vandana Anand a resident. "My maid is scared of coming to the house in the early hours or in the evening Many times they have been teased by anti-social elements," says Ruby Bahl, another resi- , dent. "During the rainy season com- muting becomes all the more difficult because of waterlog- ging on the approach roads.
The problem has continued for the past many years but noth- . ing has been done so far," says Dr Ashok Srivastav, a resident.
